This is a 16 year old Glen Elgin, an independently bottled single malt from the Speyside distillery near Elgin. It was matured in a refill hogshead and bottled at 51% ABV, without chill filtration or added colour.
Glen Elgin was established in 1898, was designed by Charles Doig and is now owned by Diageo. It uses long fermentations and slow distillation, and has long been a component of White Horse blends.
The nose offers toffee, caramel, shortbread, creamy oak and green banana. The palate is soft, with fudge, grilled pineapple, gentle ginger, chocolate-dipped berries and condensed milk. The finish brings cherry chocolate, butterscotch and a lingering spice.
