GlenAllachie – 9 Years Douro Valley Wine Cask Finish Limited Edition (48%)

A nine-year-old Speyside single malt from GlenAllachie, finished in Douro Valley wine casks as a limited edition. The whisky was first matured in ex-bourbon barrels of American oak, then spent over two years in wine barriques chosen by Billy Walker. It is bottled at 48%, unfiltered and without added colour. The wine casks give a deep red-wood colour, with layers of dried stone fruit and gentle, warming spice. The nose is plum jam, clementine and dried red berries, with heather honey and vanilla spice. On the palate come dried apricot, heather honey and crystallised fruit, then ripe black fruit, caramel and cinnamon. The finish is dark fruit, cinnamon and butterscotch.
