A ten-year-old Glenglassaugh distilled on 26 November 2014 and matured in a first-fill Oloroso sherry butt, cask 278. Best Dram bottled it at a cask strength of 54.6% ABV, without chill-filtration or added colour.
The distillery stands on the north-east coast of Scotland. The active sherry wood adds dark fruit, nuttiness and spiced oak to the spirit.
The nose opens with malt sweetness like traditional malt extract, Brazil nuts and a little dark chocolate, with dark berries and ripe cherries emerging over time. The palate is full, with malty sweetness, nuts, bitter chocolate and juicy berry fruit. The finish is long, with oak spice, ripe tannins and a gentle balsamic sweetness.
