Glenglassaugh – 1973 41 Year Old Massandra Connection 2014 (70cl, 44.5%)

This is a single cask Glenglassaugh distilled in 1973 and bottled in 2014 at 41 years old. It comes in a 70cl bottle at 44.5%, without colouring or chill filtration. The whisky was finished in a Massandra sherry puncheon, which yielded 388 bottles. It dates from the period when Billy Walker's Benriach Distillery Co. owned Glenglassaugh, between 2013 and 2016, and began digging out the best casks in the distillery's inventory. The tasting notes mention dried pineapple, banana and golden sultanas on the nose, with stem ginger, white pepper and candied peel. The palate shows lime zest, green apple, pear and ripe tropical fruit, with cigar box spice and a gentle oiliness.
