Glenglassaugh – Sandend

An unpeated single malt from Glenglassaugh, named after Sandend Bay on the north Aberdeenshire coast, where the distillery sits. Its stills were silent for more than two decades before being fired up again in 2008. The whisky matured in a combination of bourbon, sherry and Manzanilla casks, and the bay is honoured with this bottling. The nose offers butter toffee, vanilla ice cream, candied mango and salted papaya. On the palate, mango and toasted vanilla come through with stewed pineapple and creamy barley. The finish brings grapefruit and juicy berries, more vanilla and caramel, and a distant coastal breeze.
