Glenmorangie – Calvados Cask Finish 12 Year Old

This is a 12-year-old Glenmorangie single malt from the Barrel Select Release series. It was created by Dr Bill Lumsden and is the first Glenmorangie finished in Calvados du Pays d'Auge casks from Normandy. The whisky spends more than ten years in American white oak bourbon casks, then moves into casks that previously held Calvados, an apple brandy, for twenty years. The finish adds fruit and floral notes to the softer character beneath. The nose brings baked apples and pears with jasmine, narcissus and a little citrus. The palate has stewed apple, ripe pear, vanilla and marzipan, and the finish is silky and long, with apple cake, light spice and warm wood.
