Glenmorangie – Grand Vintage 1998 23 Year Old

Glenmorangie Grand Vintage 1998 is a 23 year old single malt distilled in 1998, the year Dr Bill Lumsden began exploring new paths at the distillery. It was the first Glenmorangie to use new charred oak casks. A handful of casks were filled and left to mature for more than twenty years in a traditional earth-floored warehouse. The result was blended with whisky from first-fill bourbon casks, and a small part was finished in oloroso sherry casks. The colour is rich amber. The nose gives toffee, pear, plum, baked apple, spearmint and vanilla. The palate is creamy and almost fizzy, with chocolate, butterscotch, raisins and figs. The finish is soft, with toasted almond, leather and dates.
