This is The Glenrothes 42 Year Old, known as The 42, a Speyside single malt in a 70cl bottle at 43% ABV.
The whisky spent 42 years maturing in Spanish oak sherry casks. It was distilled in the distillery's tall copper pot stills, which have swan necks.
The nose combines dried fruit, polished oak, crystallised ginger, beeswax and orange peel. On the palate are dark chocolate, dried figs, candied citrus and roasted nuts, with winter spices and a hint of espresso. The finish is very long, with honey, dried apricot and gentle sherried sweetness.
