This is a 2007 Caol Ila single malt in Gordon & MacPhail's Connoisseurs Choice range. The range comes from a family business with four generations of passion for single malt Scotch whisky, and is made up of single cask and small batch bottlings of individual distilleries.
The nose pairs cured meat with ripe green apples and cocoa powder, then fruitcake, hazelnuts and autumnal spice. On the palate, stewed fruit and honeycomb lead to rich cinnamon, followed by cracked black pepper, malted biscuit and sweet smoke. The full finish brings dark chocolate, toasted oak and bonfire embers.
