Green Spot is a triple-distilled single pot still Irish whiskey, made at Midleton Distillery and bottled at 40% ABV. It was made exclusively for the wine merchants Mitchell & Sons, who bought casks of pot still whiskey and aged them in ex-sherry casks.
Today sherry casks make up 25% of the barrels, with the rest ex-bourbon. The name comes from the dab of paint used to identify barrels by age, which for Green Spot is seven to eight years.
The nose has fresh aromatic fruit and oils with barley and toasted wood, and a clear sherry influence. The palate is spicy, with green apples, pears and apricot, mellow grain and coconut. The finish is of moderate length, with spice and pot still character.
