Midleton Dair Ghaelach Kilranelagh Tree No. 3 is a single pot still Irish whiskey from Midleton Distillery, bottled at 114.2 proof (57.1% ABV) in a 75cl bottle. Dair Ghaelach means Irish oak.
This is the fifth chapter in the series and draws on Kilranelagh Estate near Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow, where the Westerhultz family has managed the native woodland since the 1600s.
The nose combines fresh pine, floral honey, ground pepper, green tea, mown hay and smoked almonds. The palate opens with dried chilli and red pepper before candied orange and red apple emerge, with vanilla and cinnamon from the oak. The finish is very long, with pot still spice and oak.
