Midleton Dair Ghaelach Kilranelagh Tree No. 5 is a Single Pot Still Irish whiskey from Midleton Distillery, bottled at 57% ABV in a 75cl bottle. Dair Ghaelach means Irish oak, and this is the fifth chapter of the series. The oak comes from Kilranelagh Estate near Baltinglass in County Wicklow, where the Westerhultz family has managed the native woodland since the 1600s.
The nose offers fresh pine, floral honey and ground pepper, with tropical fruit, green tea and cut hay, then smoked almonds, vanilla and cinnamon. The palate opens with dried chilli and red pepper before candied orange and red apple come through. The finish is long, with pot still spice and oak.
