Hakushu 18 Year Old is a Japanese single malt from Suntory's Hakushu distillery, built in 1973 in the forests of the Japanese Alps in Yamanashi Prefecture. It is bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle.
It was the category winner for Japanese Single Malt, 13 to 20 years, at the 2020 World Whiskies Awards.
The nose is typically described as orange blossom and ripe pear with dry forest smoke and fresh green herbs. The palate brings baked goods, honeyed malt, mint and dried fruit, with gentle smoke. The finish is long and fruity, with Manuka honey and a clean freshness.
