Hakushu 18 Year Old is a Japanese single malt whisky from Suntory's mountain forest distillery on Mt. Kaikomagatake. It is bottled at 43% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It was matured for 18 years in first and second fill European oak.
Hakushu was at one point in the 1980s the largest distillery in the world, and it is the lesser known of Suntory's two distilleries, alongside Yamazaki.
The nose offers ripe pear, dried mint, oregano and a hint of smoke. The palate brings jasmine, mango, quince and menthol, and the finish is long and pleasantly smoky with a hint of bitterness.
