Hakushu Japanese Forest is a Japanese single malt from the Hakushu distillery, a limited release in the Bittersweet Edition series and a nod to the forests around the distillery. It is a blend of Hakushu malts aged only in Spanish oak casks, in a 70cl bottle at 43% ABV.
The label design uses a motif of tree leaves from the Hakushu forest to express the harvest season. The colour is amber with reddish hues.
The nose offers cloves, apricot and prune. The palate is sweetly complex yet sprightly, with Manuka honey, orange marmalade and cacao, and the finish is a balanced, espresso-like bitterness that lingers.
