Highland Park 15 Year Old Viking Heart is a single malt from Orkney, bottled at 44% in a 70cl ceramic vessel.
It is matured mainly in first-fill European oak sherry-seasoned casks, with some refill casks added for balance. The barley is smoked with Orkney peat, which is rich in heather, and part of it is malted on hand-turned floors.
The nose combines peat smoke, heather honey, fruitcake and marzipan, with cinnamon and nutmeg. On the palate there is vanilla custard, honey-glazed pineapple and cinnamon baked apples, with a trace of peat. The finish runs medium to long, with wood smoke, vanilla and a light floral sweetness.
