Highland Park 21 Year Old is the 2022 release, bottled at 46%. It was put together from just 14 casks, all filled in 2000 or earlier, of three distinct types.
First-fill sherry-seasoned European oak hogsheads bring ginger and spice, ex-bourbon casks add sweet citrus and cedar, and refill casks give a lasting oak character. Gordon Motion, Master Whisky Maker, selected and married the three.
The nose offers espresso, dark chocolate, marmalade on toast and crushed coriander seed, with heather-tinged peat smoke running through it.
