Highland Park 40 Year Old is a single malt from Orkney, released in spring 2019 and bottled at 43.2% in a 70cl bottle. The whisky was distilled before 1979.
It began in five refill casks, then spent 11 years finishing in first-fill sherry-seasoned American oak casks, filled in 2008. The barley is malted with Highland Park's own peat smoke.
The nose is richly sweet with nutty undertones and fruity sherry notes. The palate shows depth, with elegant fruit, sherry richness and a subtle oak character. The finish is long.
