Highland Park Valknut is an Orkney single malt, the second release in the Viking Legend series and made in partnership with the Danish designer Jim Lyngvild. The name comes from the Norse symbol of three interlinked triangles, placed on fallen warriors before the Valkyries carried them to Valhalla.
It was matured mainly in sherry-seasoned American oak casks and includes a small portion of Orkney-grown Tartan barley. It is bottled at 46.8% in a 70cl bottle.
The nose brings toasted vanilla, black pepper, cloves and aniseed with aromatic smoke. The palate is sweet and clove-led with tangy aniseed, and the finish carries peat smoke and sweet spice.
