Hooten Young 8 Year Old is an American whiskey aged for eight years in oak barrels and bottled at 46% ABV in a 75cl bottle. It was distilled by MGP in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and released in November 2023 as the second core whiskey from this veteran-founded brand.
The mash bill is unusually corn-heavy: 99% corn and 1% malted barley. The brand was founded by U.S. Army veterans Tim Young and Norm Hooten.
The nose offers warm maple syrup, vanilla bean, toasted oak and orchard fruit. Caramelised maple, creamy vanilla, ripe apple, clove and cinnamon run over charred oak on the palate, followed by a long, warming finish of sweet oak, light smoke and fruit spice.
