Islay Malt 30 Year Old is a single malt from an Islay distillery that is not named. It belongs to the A Marriage of Casks editions within The Single Malts of Scotland, for which Elixir Distillers selects a few casks and marries their contents.
This edition combines two American oak barrels and an Oloroso sherry butt, all previously used to mature whisky. The spirit was distilled in 1990 and 1991 and matured for at least 30 years. It is bottled at 47.5% without chill-filtering or added colour, in a run of 1,242 bottles of 70cl.
Peat, ripe red fruit and a light medicinal note come first on the nose, with sea air and bonfire smoke. Earthy smoke meets dried mango and mint on the palate. The finish brings spice, toasted oak and gentle caramel sweetness.
