A limited release of Johnnie Walker Blue Label, inspired by umami and bottled at 43%. It came from a collaboration between master blender Emma Walker and the chef Kei Kobayashi.
The two chose the whiskies as though they were ingredients, ranging from salty, smoky notes to piquant, meaty ones. The aim was to capture umami in liquid form.
The flavour balances sweet and salty, with grilled pineapple, blood orange and red berries, mainly blackberry, alongside rich cocoa, a little smoked meat, salt and pepper. The finish is long, sweet and fruity.
