This is an 18 year old single malt from the island of Jura, which lies between Islay and the Scottish mainland. It matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks and was then finished in casks that previously held Pedro Ximénez sherry.
The nose brings dark chocolate, coffee and rich sherry, with dried fruit, raisins, figs, vanilla and roasted nuts, plus a little sea salt and soft smoke. The palate is full and round, with honey, caramel, dates, cinnamon and nutmeg, then dark berries, plums, coconut and vanilla. The finish is long, with sweet sherry, light spice and a soft hint of smoke.
