Kaiyo The Peated is a Japanese whisky made from 100% peated malt, bottled at 46% ABV.
It spent two years in Madeira casks, then a little over two years in handmade Japanese Mizunara oak casks, and was finished at sea.
The nose is smoky peat and iodine with dried berries and hints of sandalwood. On the palate come smoked almonds, savoury soy, crushed tea leaves and toasty grains. The finish is rich, dry and long, with a little brine and warming spice.
