Karuizawa – 1981/2011 30 Year Old Cask #6207 Vintage (70cl, 58.3%)

This is a single cask Karuizawa, distilled in 1981 and bottled in September 2011 at 30 years old. It matured in a sherry butt, cask 6207, and was bottled at cask strength, 58.3% ABV, in a 70cl bottle. The outturn was 543 bottles. Karuizawa was founded in 1955 in the foothills of Mount Asama, at 850 metres above sea level, which made it the highest distillery in Japan. It closed in 2011, the year this whisky was bottled. It is described as having sherry notes, Maraschino cherries, ginger and pepper.
