This is a 31 year old Karuizawa single malt from Japan, distilled in 1981 and bottled in 2012 by Shinanoya. It matured in a single bourbon barrel, cask 4961, and was bottled at 60% ABV, with an outturn of 228 bottles.
The release marks the fifth anniversary of the Shinanoya Private Cask series. Its bourbon barrel maturation sets it apart from the many Karuizawa releases matured in sherry casks.
