Kentucky Owl Maighstir is a Kentucky bourbon created jointly by Scotch whisky master blender Maureen Robinson and Kentucky Owl blender John Rhea. The name is the Gaelic word for master.
It is a blend of bourbons aged 4, 5, 8 and 9 years, bottled at 50% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It carries more grassy and nutty notes than most bourbons.
The nose is malted barley with a touch of sweet caramel and a little vanilla. On the palate the rye gives a sweetness like boiled sweets, with soft wheat and barley and a gentle citrus note. The finish is long, with caramel and vanilla fading slowly.
