Kentucky Vintage is a small batch sour mash bourbon from Kentucky Bourbon Distillers in Bardstown, bottled at 45% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It carries no age statement. The barrels are hand-selected and aged beyond the usual time for standard bourbon.
Two mashbills are blended: 85% of the whiskey comes from a recipe of 72% corn, 13% rye and 15% malted barley, and the remaining 15% from one of 79% corn, 7% rye and 14% malted barley.
The nose offers vanilla, stone fruit, warm oak and a hint of campfire smoke. The palate is buttery and medium-bodied, with candied corn, white pepper, almonds and baked apple. The finish is long and warming, with oak, butterscotch and a trace of almond.
