Kilchoman – 14 Year Old 20th Anniversary Cask Series (55%)

This is a 14 year old Islay single malt from Kilchoman, released for the distillery's 20th anniversary. Anthony Wills chose five Oloroso sherry casks from 2011 for it, and it is bottled at 55%. Around 3,000 bottles were released. Kilchoman describes itself as 100% Islay, with every stage from barley to bottle done on its own farm. The nose offers figs, raisins and dates, dark chocolate, toasted nuts, orange peel, peat smoke, leather and sea air. On the palate, sherry sweetness meets earthy peat, spicy oak, cherry, caramel and cinnamon, with dark chocolate and a touch of liquorice. The finish is long and warming, with bonfire smoke, raisins, burnt wood and a light salty note.
