Kilchoman – Casado

Kilchoman Casado is a 2022 limited release from Islay, with 12,900 bottles filled. Casado is Portuguese for marriage, a nod to its two stages of maturation. The whisky spent six years in 38 fresh bourbon barrels, then two years in two Portuguese red wine casks of 6,000 litres each. Its peat level is 50 ppm. The nose combines bonfire smoke with peach, plum and cherry, deep marzipan and a maritime note. The palate brings fine pepper and spice, dry salty peat smoke, apricot and lemon. The finish is long and warming, with stewed fruit and sweet marmalade alongside the Kilchoman smoke.
