Kilchoman Machir Bay is an Islay single malt bottled at 46%. It is matured mainly in ex-bourbon casks, which bring vanilla and butterscotch, and then given a short finish in Oloroso sherry butts.
Kilchoman is a farm distillery on Rockside Farm, and 20% of the malt for this whisky comes from its own barley.
The nose combines fresh citrus, vanilla biscuit and peat smoke. Tropical fruit and dried raisins lead the palate, with warming smoke, light sweetness and spicy undertones. The finish is long, with sherried fruit and a touch of black pepper.
