Kilchoman – Machir Bay (70cl, 46%)

A single malt from Kilchoman, one of Islay's younger distilleries, bottled at 46% without an age statement. It is named after the bay close to the distillery. It is a vatting of spirit matured in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The bourbon casks add soft vanilla and light sweetness, while the sherry casks bring extra fruit and depth to the peat smoke. The nose is fresh peat smoke with citrus, ripe fruit and vanilla, plus a touch of sea air. The palate is full and lively, with smoky peat, sweet malt and fruit, and the finish is lingering and smoky with spice and a salty note.
