Kilchoman – Madeira Cask Matured (2021) (70cl, 50%)

This is a 2021 limited release from Kilchoman on Islay, matured fully in Madeira wine casks. It is bottled at 50% in a 70cl bottle, non-chill-filtered and of natural colour. The peat level is approximately 50 ppm, and the Madeira wood adds a sweet, fruity side to the smoky Islay character. The nose combines warm peat smoke, orange peel, honey, dried apricot, spices and a hint of sweet wine. On the palate come layers of caramel, dried fruit, vanilla, citrus and soft spices over a firm smoky base. The finish is long and warming, with fruity wine, peat smoke, cocoa and oak.
