Kilchoman – Sanaig (70cl)

Sanaig is a single malt from Kilchoman, the farm distillery on Islay, named after a rocky inlet on the island's west coast. The spirit is made from barley grown and malted on site, and it comes in a 70cl bottle. It is matured mainly in first-fill and refill Oloroso sherry butts, with a share of bourbon barrels, bringing peat smoke together with dried fruit, spice and dark chocolate from the sherry wood. Tasting notes describe a nose of peat smoke, dark berries, sultanas and citrus zest, with vanilla and caramel. The palate brings figs, dates, dark chocolate, a touch of salinity, baking spices and espresso. The finish is long, with peat smoke fading to dried fruit and spice.
