Balcomie is a Lowland single malt from Kingsbarns, made only from malted barley grown locally in Fife and bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. It was matured entirely in American oak casks that previously held Oloroso sherry.
The name refers to Balcomie, a castle from the 1500s that stands near the distillery.
The nose brings syrup, sultanas, fruit cake with a dusting of cinnamon, a little dark chocolate and summer berries. The palate is sweet, recalling tinned pineapple, orange peel and baking spice, and the finish moves to dried apricots with a touch of toasted hazelnut.
