Kingsbarns Falkland is a limited release single malt from the Lowlands, bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. The barley was grown less than six miles from the distillery.
It was matured in a blend of 80% first-fill ex-bourbon casks and 20% STR casks, which are shaved, toasted and re-charred former Portuguese red wine casks. The larger share of STR casks adds warm spices, red fruit and some chocolate. The name recalls the barns of local villages that stored grain for the royal castle at Crail and the palace at Falkland in the 12th century.
The nose offers red currants, sweet sugar, vanilla, sherbet and milk chocolate. The palate is soft vanilla custard with a touch of orange spice, and the finish is berried and warmly spiced.
