Kurayoshi 12 Year Pure Malt is a Japanese blended malt from Matsui Shuzo in Tottori Prefecture, bottled at 43% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
It was matured for at least twelve years in ex-bourbon white oak casks, and combines malt whisky from Scottish distilleries with Japanese malt. Water from the volcanic aquifers of Mount Daisen is used in its production.
The nose is nutty, with almonds first, then malt, vanilla and dried raisins and a trace of smoke. Vanilla and hazelnut lead the palate, with a little brine in the middle. The finish is soft and of moderate length, with toasted nuts and a whisper of smoke.
