Lagavulin – 16 Year Old 1995 Distillers Edition Double Matured in Pedro Ximenez (2011) (70cl, 43%)

This is Lagavulin 16 Year Old from the 2011 Distillers Edition, an Islay single malt distilled in 1995 and bottled in 2011 at 43% in a 70cl bottle. The whisky was double matured for up to six months in European Pedro Ximenez sherry oak casks, which add fruit such as raisins and dried fruit, along with a syrupy character. The deep amber malt keeps Lagavulin's peat and sea-spray character, with a sweet undertone. Tasting notes describe a nose of cranberry, raspberry, peat, chocolate and smoke, a full-bodied palate of cherry, plum and toffee, and a deep finish of chocolate, hazelnut paste and soft smoke.
