Lagavulin 16 Year Old is an Islay single malt matured for at least 16 years in oak casks and bottled by the distillery at 43%. Strong peat smoke meets deep sweetness and dry, maritime impressions.
The smoky character comes from malt peated at the Port Ellen Maltings, and the distillery distils particularly slowly. In 2025 it won gold at both the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the New York International Spirits Competition.
On the nose are strong peat smoke, iodine and seaweed over deep sweetness. The palate is dry and peaty with a clear but gentle sweetness, then salty sea notes and a little wood. The finish is long, with peat, salt and seaweed.
