Lagavulin 16 Year Old is an Islay single malt bottled at 43% ABV. The distillery stands on the island's south coast, sheltered by Lagavulin Bay, and was officially founded by John Johnston in 1816.
The malt is made from heavily peated barley, with a phenol level given as about 35 ppm.
It is usually described as combining strong peat smoke with sweet malt, heathery spice and a gentle fruitiness, along with maritime iodine notes and a long, dry finish.
