Lagavulin – 16 Year Old (70cl, 43%)

Lagavulin 16 Year Old is an Islay single malt from the island's south coast, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It belongs to the Classic Malts series and is an original distillery bottling. The distillery was founded by John Johnston in 1816. Its stills run slowly: the first distillation takes about five hours and the second more than nine. A deep sweetness meets dry peat smoke, with salt, seaweed and restrained wood. The nose is of strong peat smoke, iodine and seaweed over a rich sweetness. The palate pairs dry peat with a soft but powerful sweetness, then salty, maritime notes and a touch of wood. The finish is long, with peat smoke, salt and seaweed.
