Lagavulin Distillers Edition is an Islay single malt bottled at 43% ABV. It starts from Lagavulin's 16 Year Old malt, matured in American and European oak.
The whisky is then double-matured in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, which add dried fruit sweetness to the peated spirit. Recent bottlings carry no age statement.
The nose has robust peat smoke softened by sherry, chocolate and raisin, with hints of coffee, sea breeze and vanilla. On the palate, plum and raisin sit over Islay peat and char, with espresso, dark chocolate, sea salt and oak spice. The finish is long and warming, with Pedro Ximénez sweetness, maritime salt, ashy peat and a touch of citrus peel.
