Leopold Bros 8 Year Old is a cask strength Kentucky straight bourbon in a 75cl bottle, and the oldest whiskey the distillery has released. Barrels are filled at 50% ABV, but after eight years some water has evaporated, lifting the strength to over 55%.
The mashbill is 65% corn, 20% floor malted barley and 15% rye, matured in American new oak. A few extra months in used Three Chamber Rye whiskey barrels followed, adding sweet grains, graham crackers and an oily texture.
Candied apricot and orange marmalade, found regularly in the distillery's whiskies, sit alongside them.
