Lindores Abbey 1494 is the distillery's signature single malt from Newburgh in Fife, in the Lowlands. It brings together whisky matured in three kinds of cask: bourbon barrels, wine barriques and sherry butts. The name refers to 1494, the year of the earliest written record of aqua vitae being made at the abbey site. It is bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle, with natural colour and no chill-filtering.
The bottle has no outer box. Its shape echoes the carved stones of the medieval abbey found during excavations.
The nose offers soft vanilla and caramel with orchard fruit, pear drops and toffee apple. The palate is silky and creamy, with mild vanilla, dried fruit, hints of citrus and light spice. The finish is medium in length, gently sweet and lingering.
