Friar John 2026 is the fourth release in an annual series from Lindores Abbey, named after the monk commissioned by King James IV in 1494 to distil Aqua Vitae, the earliest written reference to Scotch whisky. This Lowland single malt is bottled at 52.5% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It was matured entirely in ex-Ruby Port casks, which give it a rich, fruit-led character. Tasting notes list dark fruits, chocolate-coated raisins and caramelised dates, then dark sugar syrup, cinnamon and lively spice, with roasted almonds and vanilla. The finish is long, sweet and warming.

About Glenbotal

The idea of Glenbotal came to us naturally: as whisky lovers, we were always on the lookout for new experiences in the whisky world. That’s why we created Glenbotal and became our very own first customers. We buy unique and hard to find spirits from ballots and private collections. Then, we share them with a small circle of friends and people who can appreciate a good dram.
