Thiron 2024 is a single malt from Lindores Abbey in Fife and the first of an annual series recalling the distillery's link to the French abbey of Thiron-Gardais. It was bottled in 2024 at 49.4%, without chill-filtration or added colour.
The whisky matured in red wine barriques, bourbon casks and new French oak casks, the wood coming from the area around Thiron-Gardais. The distillery had new trees planted there to replace the oaks used. A light touch of smoke runs through its fruity, spicy character.
Tasting notes mention clementine, lemon peel and meadow honey on the nose, apple pastry and vanilla ice cream on the palate, and a long, warming finish.
