This is the second batch of Lochlea Cask Strength, a Lowland single malt bottled at 60% ABV. It was matured in a combination of wine casks, with Pedro Ximénez sherry casks making up 60% of the mix alongside Oloroso and STR wine casks.
Lochlea began producing spirit in 2018 on a South Ayrshire farm once worked by Robert Burns.
The nose opens with apples, peach syrup and marmalade. On the palate come crunchy green apples, warm cereals, spicy oak and sticky sultanas, with wild lavender and rose petals. The finish is long, with more fruit and a hint of black pepper.
