This is a 20-year-old Jamaican rum from Long Pond, distilled in 2004 and bottled as RumClub Private Selection #59.
It matured entirely in ex-bourbon casks of American oak: 13 years in the tropical heat of Jamaica, then seven more years in Europe. The long ageing gives a dark, velvety rum.
Oak and sweet caramel come first on the nose, followed by dried fruit, candied sugar and dark chocolate. Hints of Jamaican funk and fruit surface from the background, and the finish is long and velvety.
