This is the 2014 edition of Macallan's 18 year old Sherry Oak, a Speyside single malt from the 1996 vintage, in a 70cl bottle. The whisky matured exclusively in sherry casks from Jerez.
Dried fruits, ginger, orange peel and leathery sherry make up its character, with fruitcake, praline, mocha and nut brittle also noted.
The nose offers apricot cream, candied dark fruit, chocolate and vanilla. Brown sugar, honey and milk chocolate run through the palate, with woody spice. The finish is fairly long, with yellow fruits, dark chocolate and smoked plum, and a well balanced sweetness.
