Macallan – A Night on Earth 2021 (70cl, 40%)

This is a Speyside single malt in a 70cl bottle at 40% ABV. It is the first edition of A Night on Earth, an annual limited series inspired by Scotland's Hogmanay celebrations and their fire rituals. The whisky marries sherry casks of European and American oak with ex-bourbon casks, which give a rich, sweet, shortbread-like character. The layered packaging was designed by the illustrator Erica Dorn. The nose is buttery, with vanilla, baked apple, pastry, plum and almond. The palate is soft and velvety, with shortbread, toasted marshmallow, dried orange, fig and cinnamon. The finish is medium, with sweet caramel and fresh biscuits.
